The readability of text or in this case blogs can be assessed in numerous ways. Readability algorithms attempt to measure the grade or level required for a person to comprehend a text. Common factors used for evaluating readability include:
- Number of words in a sentence.
- Number of syllables per word.
- Usually algorithms also include a syntactic factor and semantic factor.
Using the Blog readability tool I have tested 39 finance Blogs and the results are shown below. I am not sure what particular algorithm the site uses and some results seem very surprising. The results are ranked from elementary school level to genius level, I am not sure if it is better to be more readable or more technical? The rankings are listed below:

LOL, sweet, come along junior high students, right this way, good idea!
S^, dude? My Trader Feed blog is high school level?? OMG, that is *so* lame. I can’t believe I’m uber-pwned by a bunch of genius blogs. Whatever; I’m outta here–

lol! @ Brett’s “Whatever”!
hahahaha
That is my daughter’s favorite word right now, and everytime she says it, I make her give me a dollar.
lol! lol!
Thanks for the mention here. It is appreciated!

Hmm… I’m not sure if I’m flattered or worried. I meant The Curious Investor to be a blog for anyone looking to start up investing or learn more about it. Though, I did intend to let people delve further than most other sites out there. I hope it’s not too hard to read. But, it’s always good to be ranked at the top! haha!
I’m happy with my result - elementary school. It’s something I actually work on given my audience
Now I’m really curious where my blog will rank.
You don’t have to post the results here, but you can if you want to.
The Tech Farm
I think an easy to read blog is something to strive for.
Using the tool above TechFarm == PostGrad.
Is there a way of providing a Java(?) input box so it was possible to grade different blogs? Would like to know the rank of my blog, but it would be good to see how it compared to others.
Nice list though…

Hey guys,
I think you forgot this AC Investor Blog !!! ;- ))))
emm… don’t know whether I should aim for High School or Kindergarten now!
well at least I made the list
If looking to gain a lot of reach, blogs should be written at junior high or lower level.
I am at high school level, and since I value reach, I have to downgrade my own blog
I like the idea that Trading Goddess’s blog is at the genius level. Her amalgamation mix of cool pics that capture the market manic moods, is genius certainly.

I knew I felt smarter after reading the Kirk Report.
Thanks for the lead on the readability. I had no idea all of my readers were Postgrad!
