Finance Blogs Readability Ranked

The readability of text or in this case blogs can be assessed in numerous ways. Readability algorithms attempt to measure the grade or level required for a person to comprehend a text. Common factors used for evaluating readability include:

  • Number of words in a sentence.
  • Number of syllables per word.
  • Usually algorithms also include a syntactic factor and semantic factor.

Using the Blog readability tool I have tested 39 finance Blogs and the results are shown below. I am not sure what particular algorithm the site uses and some results seem very surprising. The results are ranked from elementary school level to genius level, I am not sure if it is better to be more readable or more technical? The rankings are listed below:

Hmm… I’m not sure if I’m flattered or worried. I meant The Curious Investor to be a blog for anyone looking to start up investing or learn more about it. Though, I did intend to let people delve further than most other sites out there. I hope it’s not too hard to read. But, it’s always good to be ranked at the top! haha!

Is there a way of providing a Java(?) input box so it was possible to grade different blogs? Would like to know the rank of my blog, but it would be good to see how it compared to others.

    Nice list though…

If looking to gain a lot of reach, blogs should be written at junior high or lower level.
I am at high school level, and since I value reach, I have to downgrade my own blog :-)

I like the idea that Trading Goddess’s blog is at the genius level. Her amalgamation mix of cool pics that capture the market manic moods, is genius certainly.

If I am bullish, I neither buy on reaction, nor wait for strength; I am already in. I turn bullish at the instant my buy stop is hit, and stay bullish until my sell stop is hit. Being bullish and not being long is illogical. — Ed Seykota
