Today we will be putting Windows Vista Business Edition to the trading platform test. The platform that we will be testing under Windows Vista Business Edition today is DealBooks 360 and Chart Studio.
Installation: Simply select language and accept End User Licence Agreement, choose install destination and both DealBooks 360 and Chart Studio shortcuts will be placed on your desktop.
The first time I ran DealBooks 360 there were no issues, the speech recognition assistant came up and I configured my speech recognition settings by completing the tutorial. After you have set up your microphone, you setup speech commands for DealBooks. I do not recommend this for live trading however as it is still an emerging technology. Upon closing the compatibility assistant came up telling me that Windows Vista had fixed a compatibility problem for me and that next time I run the program there should not be an issue.
DealBooks 360 is completely compatible with Windows Vista Business Edition and makes use of some of the advanced speech recognition features present in Vista. It is a bit of annoyance however that the speech recognition features cannot be turned off in DealBooks 360 and the updater is a separate application that requires permission to run. Some screen shots of DealBooks 360 are shown below:
As you can see above DealBooks 360 is an advanced trading application that provides up to the minute financial news, real time quotes, integrated charting, integrated quote board and Dow Jones News Wire service.
Chart Studio
Chart Studio is basically an integrated development environment, it allows for the writing of strategies and systems for use with DealBooks 360. The programming language used is know as CTL or Common Technical Analysis Language. CTL is said to be similar to Pascal and is fairly straight forward to program in. If you have done any software development you will be familiar with layout elements present in Chart Studio as the are similar to visual studio .
On the left hand side are the System modules, to the right of System modules is the main editor window and below that is the output. This program as you would expect runs flawlessly with Windows Vista Business Edition.
Bottom Line
DealBooks 360 and Chart Studio work very well under Windows Vista Business Edition and are extremely stable. There are a few minor annoyances such as the updater running every time DealBooks 360 is launched meaning the User Access Control is triggered and the inability to disable speech recognition in Dealbooks 360 can also be a frustration.
